Art Insurance

The loss or theft of your art is psychologically traumatic enough: art insurance is there so it won't have to be financially traumatic as well. One thing to keep in mind when insuring your art is to keep appraisals current and keep your paperwork all together to make things easier if you have to file a claim.

Selected Art Insurers mentioned on the Quiltart List

Many artists on the quiltart list recommend insurance through a company named Milne-Scali. Most people have reported reasonable rates with a $500 dollar deductible. Since rates may vary by an individuals needs, I suggest contacting the company for more information. Main contact information on the website is Milne Scali 1750 East Glendale Ave. | Phoenix, AZ 85020-5505

Other potential sources for art insurance

American Craft Council offers an insurance program for professional members.

The Artists Trust has a large list of resources for property and liability insurance for people in the arts.

Health Insurance

One of the issues confronting people in the arts is health care coverage. By some estimates 18% artists lack health insurance. In large cities the figure can approach 30%. (source) Comparing insurance plans can be a daunting task, and the limited incomes of many artists make shopping around a necessity. The Access to Health Insurance / Resources for Care database was created by by The Actors’ Fund of America, with a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, as a health insurance resource for artists and people in the entertainment industry. It has now expanded to cover the self-employed and underinsured, and is a good state-by-state resource although the amount and depth of information varies by state. The California Arts Council offers an informative page on health insurance for artists, including some links to providers and sample quotes. The Crafts Report also offers a page of insurance links, their Health Insurance Resource Guide.
